Yes, it IS Wednesday today.

Dispite
my sub-concious wanting it to be Thursday today (it’s going to be well disappointed
on Friday then when it’s forced to work what it thinks is a Saturday) things
are OK.

As usual, nothing exciting happening at work.

I’ve decided to go to see the latest Harry Potter film on Friday evening.
I only had two replies from the e-mail I sent out asking if anyone wanted
to come along. One was a flat, sorry, seen it and don’t want to again and
the other was a probably, but work may get in the way. So much for trying
to jumpstart the social life around here.

Looking forward to the weekend, I believe the computer fair is visiting Oxford
this Saturday. If it is I can pop in and see if I can pick up a new heatsink
and/or fan for my Celeron 300A processor sitting in my server. The poor thing
had the fan seize up the week before I came home so I’ve not been able to
switch it on since.

The rest of the weekend is pretty empty. I will try to get replacement pips
and joint for my kitchen sink to fit them properly. As it turns out, just
before I left for Christmas the waste pipe sort of became disjoint after
the glue broke in one of the fittings. You may wonder how this happened..
well , the fitter who installed the sink obviously cut the pipe about 1″
too short, so rammed the whole lot down until the flexing of the bottom of
the sink and the other joints made up the gap and then he glued the joint.

If the weather is half decent (which it looks as though it isn’t) I want
to wash my car down. It’s very mucky and got a lot of salt on it during the
journey back from Cornwall.

Why isn’t it Wednesday?

I keep on thinking it’s Wednesday for some unknown reason. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking of some kind?

Fun things happening at work have been:-

  • Getting an XP machine to talk to our Suns.
  • Putting a MacOS X 10.2 machine on the network and finding that
Apple have broken the name service lookup so that NIS for user authentication
    for the desktop nolonger works.
  • Discovering a disk drive with a power supply making a medium pitch,
loud whining noise, so had to swap the drive into a spare case to preserve
users’ sanity and possibly the disk.

What fun, eh?

First day back at work.

Well, it’s the first day back at work.

So far it’s been surprisingly quiet. Just a couple of printer problems, nothing
which wouldn’t happen on a normal Monday. The only extra work necessary has
been the clearing out of  my mail inbox. I’ve yet to go through my spam
folder to see if there are any messages  which were mis-filed by spamassasin.

I’ve put out an e-mail to a number of local people asking if anyone would
like to join me in seeing the latest Harry Potter film at the end of the
week but have only so far got two replies. One said that they’d already seen
the film and didn’t want to see it again and the other said possibly Friday
is he doesn’t have to do overtime. At least I got some replies.

The weather today is bl**dy freezing! My face got frozen cycling in and my
legs started to seize up by the end of the trip. How much of the leg problem
was due to the weather and how much was due to hardly using my legs for a
fortnight is hard to tell. I’m sure after about 4 weeks both my legs and
my girth will be back to the way they were before Christmas. (I put on about
1-1.5 belt notches around my waist over the fortnight!)

I’ve decided to put in more of an effort into getting a social life this
year by being a little more proactive and suggesting things to do to people
around here. How long I can fight against apathy is questionable, but at
least I’m going to make an effort.

Maybe I’ll even meet the love of my life.. though this is probably as likely
as Saddam Hussain inviting George “Dubya” Bush and Tony Blair to tea and
then asking them to run his country for him for a while so he can have a
nice holiday in Hawaii. (I’m sure Dubya would even then find a reason for
going to war, such as the evil way Saddam served the crumpets with the wrong
sort of butter or jam.)

Hmm..

If you’re interested, the previous entry arrived thrice due to proxy problems when I submitted it making me think it never got posted.. so I retried, twice.. I was wrong. Oh well.

Well, I’m back!

Well, I’ve mad it back from the wilds of Cornwall.

Tomorrow is the first day back at work after 2 weeks away so I’m wondering what the kiddies have broken whilst I’ve been away. Thankfully, all but two days of the holiday the dept. has officially been closed.

I’m glad BT didn’t turn off my ADSL line over the last two weeks.. I’ve heard horror stories of people having their ADSL turned off after only a few days when they’ve turned off their equipment to go away on holiday.

On other stuff.. I brought back from Cornwall lots of my old model railway rolling stock which had been stored in my parents’ loft. I can now put it in my loft here and possibly take some of it to show Graham & Christopher. No doubt he’ll enjoy seeing the APT/P (Advanced Passenger Train – Prototype) with its tilting coaches. 🙂

Seeing as I managed to see the Two Towers before Christmas I only have one film to still see at the moment, the latest Harry Potter one. I may try to see if anyone at work wants to go to see it. That’s if any of them haven’t seen it yet. (I’m not bothered about seeing the new Star Trek film. From all accounts it’s another naff rehash of the only Star Trek story ever written.)

Happy New Year

Well, it’s 2003.. and for my New Year’s resolution.. To get more round tuits as I didn’t have enough last year.

Anyway, I wish all those who read these doodlings a very happy new year and hope entropy doesn’t decrease and cause you more problems than you want.
