Release: AdvanSys Universal Driver 2.8B and Realmode Driver Last Updated: 4/20/98 Copyright (c) 1995-1999 Advanced System Products, Inc. This release only supports Solaris 2.6 installation. Earlier versions of Solaris, 2.5 and 2.5.1, you must use different package to install. The SOLARIS directory only contains this file. The latest versions of these files are contained on the AdvanSys FTP site. If the date listed in the SOLARIS.TXT file is more than a few months old, please check the FTP site for a newer version of the driver. SOLARIS.TXT Installation Instructions SOLARIS.EXE DOS Executable File with 5 Floppy Disk Images and RAWRITE.EXE Supported Adapters ================== NOTE: For the installation, Realmode Driver of this release initially supports the PCI and non-PnP mode ISA adapters. Non-PnP mode ISA means that you have to set switch #3 to off if you have ABP-5140/42 ISA PnP adapter. But, our Solaris Universal Native Driver still supports all the following adapters as a secondary. The CDB counts below indicate the number of SCSI CDB (Command Descriptor Block) requests that can be stored in the RISC chip cache and board LRAM. A CDB is a single SCSI command. This value can be lowered in the BIOS by changing the 'Host Queue Size' adapter setting. Connectivity Products: ABP510/5150 - Bus-Master ISA (240 CDB) (Footnote 1) ABP5140 - Bus-Master ISA PnP (16 CDB) (Footnote 1, 3) ABP5142 - Bus-Master ISA PnP with floppy (16 CDB) (Footnote 4) ABP920 - Bus-Master PCI (16 CDB) ABP930 - Bus-Master PCI (16 CDB) (Footnote 5) ABP930U - Bus-Master PCI Ultra (16 CDB) ABP960 - Bus-Master PCI MAC/PC (16 CDB) (Footnote 2) ABP960U - Bus-Master PCI MAC/PC Ultra (16 CDB) Single Channel Products: ABP542 - Bus-Master ISA with floppy (240 CDB) ABP742 - Bus-Master EISA (240 CDB) ABP842 - Bus-Master VL (240 CDB) ABP940 - Bus-Master PCI (240 CDB) ABP940U - Bus-Master PCI Ultra (240 CDB) ABP970 - Bus-Master PCI MAC/PC (240 CDB) ABP970U - Bus-Master PCI MAC/PC Ultra (240 CDB) Dual Channel Products: ABP752 - Dual Channel Bus-Master EISA (240 CDB Per Channel) ABP852 - Dual Channel Bus-Master VL (240 CDB Per Channel) ABP950 - Dual Channel Bus-Master PCI (240 CDB Per Channel) Footnotes: 1. This board has been shipped by HP with the 4020i CD-R drive. The board has no BIOS so it cannot control a boot device, but it can control any secondary SCSI device. 2. This board has been sold by Iomega as the Jaz Jet PCI adapter. 3. This board has been sold by SIIG as the i540 SpeedMaster. 4. This board has been sold by SIIG as the i542 SpeedMaster. 5. This board has been sold by SIIG as the Fast SCSI Pro PCI. Instructions for creating the ASC Universal Driver Diskettes using DOS ====================================================================== The file SOLARIS.EXE is a self-extracting archive which contains images of five Solaris 1.44 MB diskettes. These images are for DOS FAT diskettes. The five diskette images must be copied to 3.5" diskettes to run a Solaris install. If you intend to install the ASC driver to an existing Solaris 2.6 system, then only the ASCITU diskette is needed. 1. Copy the file SOLARIS.EXE to a DOS system. 2. Type the command SOLARIS.EXE. The following four files will be created: DEVCFG12.EXE Solaris Device Configuration Assistant Image (devcfg12.bin) DU2DU.EXE Driver Update Images (du2d1.bin, du2d2.bin, du2d3.bin) RAWRITE.EXE DOS Executable to transfer file images to a diskette ASCITU.DAT Driver Update Image for AdvanSys hardware Note: Both DEVCFG12.EXE and DU2DU.EXE are downloaded from Sun web site http://access1.sun.com/drivers. 3. For each image insert a blank formatted diskette in a 3.5" floppy disk drive and create total five diskettes with the following commands. 1. Run 'DEVCFG12' to create the Boot Diskette 2. Run 'DU2DU' to create three Driver Update 2 Diskettes 3. type 'RAWRITE ASCITU.DAT A:' to create ASCITU diskette Installing the ASC Driver during Solaris 2.6 Installation ========================================================= Use Boot diskette to boot the Solaris 2.6 operating envirnment and all Driver Update Diskettes including ASCITU to install and update device drivers. If you want more detail information of the installation, you can download Driver Update 2 Guide file from http://access1.sun.com/drivers. Follow these steps: 1. Insert the Solaris 2.6 x86 Edition Installation CD into a CD-ROM drive and the Boot diskette into the first floppy drive. 2. The system should boot off the floppy. When the Solaris Device Configuration Assistant screen is displayed, press F4_Driver Update. 3. Remove Boot diskette and insert Driver Update 2 Diskette 1. press F2_Continue. 4. Select Solaris OS 2.6 and press F2_Continue. 5. Remove Driver Update 2 Diskette 1 and insert Driver Update 2 Diskette 2. press F2_Continue. 6. Repeat step 5 until the ASCITU diskette is installed too. 7. Remove the ASCITU diskette and reinsert Boot diskette. press F4_Done. 8. You will see ASC in the driver list and press F2_Continue. 9. Press F3_Partial Scan. 10. Press F2_Continue. 11. Select a drive that contains your install medium, CD for example. Press F2_Continue. 12. Then follow the Solaris instructions to finish the installation. 13. At the end of the installation, you will be prompted to insert all Driver Update Diskettes again. 14. The installation procedure will automatically add the AdvanSys driver to the installed system. There is no need to re-add the driver after the installation has completed. Installing the ASC Driver after Solaris 2.6 has already been Installed ====================================================================== You must already have installed Solaris 2.6 x86 Edition software. 1. Boot the Solaris system and login as root. 2. Type ps -ef | grep vold to see if the Volume Management software is running. 3. If Volume Management is running, temporarily stop it: # /etc/init.d/volmgt stop 4. Insert ASCITU Driver Update diskette into the floppy drive. 5. Mount ASCITU Driver Update diskette at the /mnt mount point. # mount -F pcfs /dev/diskette /mnt 6. Execute the install script on the diskette by typing: # /mnt/DU/sol_26/i86pc/Tools/install.sh -i 7. Unmount the diskette if the install.sh script exits. # umount /mnt 8. Reboot your Solaris system and use the boot command 'b -r' at the boot prompt to reconfigure the system. The '-r' option will cause the /devices and /dev directories to be rebuilt. Installing SCSI Devices under Solaris ===================================== SCSI Disk and CD-ROM devices are controlled by the same target driver cmdk(7d). Device files are of the form: /dev/[r]dsk/c[0-9]t[0-7]d[0-9]s[0-f] SCSI Tape drives are controlled by st(7d). Device files are of the form: /dev/[n]rmt/[0-9] If you add or remove a SCSI device reboot your Solaris system and use the boot command 'b -r' at the boot prompt to reconfigure the system. This will cause the /devices and /dev directories to be rebuilt.
